You can't spend your whole life in front of the computer. Sometimes you need to do something intellectual, like watch TV. And then comes the day when the on/off switch on your TV does nothing. You take the case apart. You put in a new switch because the old one felt physically "loose" and you figured that had to be the problem. The thing still doesn't work. Now what?
It's time to sign onto TV/VCR TECH TALK! And ask for help. And you'll get it. This is a small group (under 100 in December 1998)made up mostly of old-line TV and VCR techs, headed by listowner Earl Melton. The questions people ask Earl and his buddies are often about repairs and parts sources for older TVs and VCRs, but some of these dudes have been around forever, so they know the answers.
Other questions and discussions are about more modern concepts, like satellite hookups and getting home entertainment "centers" working together properly.
Even if you have no immediate questions, this is a fine list to sign on to if you think you ever might want to repair consumer electronics either full-time or part-time. Try not to waste other subscribers' time, though. Most of them are full-time professionals, not amateurs. They work hard to make a living, and this list is primarily for them to help each other when they get "stuck" on a problem, not to answer questions from people who would be better off taking their broken TVs and VCRs to a professional.
