ASK THE WINDOWS WEENIE is a self-deprecating title, but the advice here is sound. We noticed that a majority of "Please Help" posts got useful replies within 24 to 48 hours, and usually drew more than one if the original question was a fuzzy one with more than one potential answer.
Paige Turner, of Web Developer's Journal is the Windows Weenie(tm). The mailing list is an extension of the WDJ Web site, where there is also an "Ask" page where it says, about Paige, "...you're welcome to ask her all the hardest Windows questions. She might answer. You can also join the Ask the Windows Weenie mailing list and trade Windows secrets/problems among yourselves by e-mail. Paige also lurks in the mailing list."
The mailing list is where the action is. Response times seem to be better, and the atmosphere more collegial, than on the Web site.
But isn't that the nature of mailing lists, as opposed to Web sites, and why so many of us prefer them?
If you have reason to delve deep into the mysterious inner workings of Microsoft's premier PC operating system, you can find far worse places to begin your descent than ASK THE WINDOWS WEENIE.
