is an E-Zine targeted to the 18 - 30 year old demographic. It's slick, and its major focus is on entertainment and life-style articles and features. Considering the number of E-Zines there are out there, and the fact that most of them tend to target this demographic, it will be interesting to see how this one does over time.
The first thing which amazed me about this listing was that until I found it here, I had never heard of Eyepiece.com. I spend lots of time on the Web, so that's not a good sign for this organization's future.
On the other hand, I am not part of this publication's demographic, so I probably don't use the right search terms to bring them onto any call I would make at a search engine. AND I probably do not frequent the sites which might have a link to them.
That considered, the second thing I have to say about Eyepiece.com is that their mix of stories was interesting. BUT when I went to their "ABOUT US" link it took me to another of those superfluous and distracting Web pages which was just a "cool" image map supplying me with another series of links. I followed the one to the "THE COMPANY" page and found this citation:
"Introduction: The Internet is an immense community. Its magic allows users to participate in efficient and meaningful interaction, while simultaneously allowing the widest and most comprehensive dissemination of information. The Eyepiece Network is a major resource for young people, using the power of the Internet to encourage the freedom to think and communicate. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Sumir Meghani has assembled some of the most skillful minds of the Internet to produce a worthy and powerful product that will transform the future of online publications.
"Founded: August 1997
"Total Number of Employees: As of August 1998, The Eyepiece Network has a staff of over 15 people.
"AGE --- PERCENT COMPOSITION
"Under 16 --- 23%
"17-34 --- 38%
"35-51 --- 29%
"52+ --- 10%
"Topic Areas: The Eyepiece Network focuses its current content matrix to cover the following three areas: entertainment, living, and sports. Additionally, through a partnership with MSNBC on the Internet, Eyepiece users can receive the latest news headlines from around the world."
What struck me most about this information was that the company seems to put a great deal of value on having employees under the age of 16. If I'm working the math correctly, of their "over 15 people" (Does that mean 16 people?) 2.5 - 3 people are under age 16.
Truly cutting edge.
