About This Particular Macintosh Ezine
ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR MAC is a wonderful weekly Web 'Zine for users of Apple Computer's Macintosh produced by Michael Tsai and a team of serious Mac enthusiasts. They openly admit that they love working on the MacOS, using Macintosh hardware, and their effort is there to "celebrate the personal computing experience." If you are using a Mac or plan to, this is a must-bookmark Web site.

I can't give Tsai and company enough credit for the design and features of this Ezine. It's attractive, as you would expect with a site designed on a Macintosh, but it also sports some nifty features that other sites miss. You can read issues on-line or review them via e-mail in DOCmaker format. The DOCmaker edition normally runs about 1MB.

What I liked best about this Ezine/Newsletter is that it welcomed average Mac users to talk about their personal experiences on their 'puters. In fact, that seems to be its major focus. No fancy "experts," just folks talking about their day-to-day work and play on their Macs. Asking questions of each other, supplying workarounds, exposing "Easter Eggs." It was like visiting a virtual Mac Users Group (VMUG.)

You certainly get a sense that being a Mac User is a fun experience from the commentary on this site.

Here's a sample from the ATPM FAQ:

"Hardware and Software Reviews: ATPM publishes hardware and software reviews. However, we do things in a rather unique way. Techno-jargon can be useful to engineers but is not always a help to most Mac users. We like reviews that inform our readers about how a particular piece of hardware or software will help their Macintosh lives. We want them to know what works, how it may help them in their work, and how enthusiastic they are about recommending it to others. If you have a new piece of hardware or software that you'd like to review, contact our reviews editor at: for more information...."

I believe what made me most like this site was how *upbeat* Tsai and company seem to be. They can celebrate the Macintosh computing experience without feeling compelled to bash the users of other platforms --- like a certain Ezine and magazine for Mac addicts which I shan't mention in this review. That positive approach to Mac enthusiam shows an admirable self-confidence.
