It doesn't surprise me that a list that is all about linux and ham radio operators is doing quite well. From my experiences, ham operators are a talkative, friendly bunch. It's no different here.
Here's a sample post from this busy list (hint: subscribe to the digest version):
"I have just installed Debian 2.0 ( frozen ) and rebuilt a new kernel with the 2.0.35.pre5 patches, posted by Alan. I am using the AX25 package included with the new Debian distribution. However, my previously fully functional system is now refusing to speak AX.25. I have a Kantronics KPC-9612 hanging off of a serial port. I'm running mkiss, kissattach, etc. precisely the same way as in my previous system. No error messages are generated when I run my ax25.rc script. The behavior that I am observing is as follows:
If I use 'Call', the TNC never activates PTT.
If I attempt to ping a station, I get the message:
ping: sendto : Operation not permitted
In fact, I just tried both operations using my old 2.0.33 kernel, and the behavior is the same. I removed mkiss from the mix, and used kissattach directly on ther serial port, with the same behavior. Therefore, it appears that the Debian upgrade is the culprit.
Oddly enough, I also have a PI/2 card with a WA4DSY modem, using the dmascc drivers, and it works fine. The only problem is with the KISS side.
Any pointers or suggestions out there?
Thanks,
- Rich"
