The FREEHOUND FREEWARE NEWSLETTER is a newsletter in the Internet tradition of the slogan, "Information wants to be free." If you are using Windows and need desire free games, desktop utilities, graphics programs and other software, this newsletter and Web site are for you.
Whether you are looking for freeware for your home or business, Freehound probably has one of the Windows software applications you seek. This newsletter keeps an archive all of the freeware the Freehound has come across and encourages its readers to recommend any freeware not found in their archives. As Lincoln Stein, the noted Web developer and columnist has pointed out many times, if you can't find a freeware equivalent of almost any piece of software, you haven't looked hard enough.
So put your wallet away and either subscribe to the Freehound newsletter or explore their Web site. The archives on their Web site give you samples of the kinds of referrals you will find there.
Here's are examples from a recent newsletter:
"Stickys vs..03 107 k
"This is a very small, freeware program that allows you to have an electronic version of a little, yellow sticky note on your PC. It has a LOT of features. Please visit the Web site for details. I have two download options - one with dll's and one without. Please visit the url above for the download links and details.
"LushOS vs..001 20 k
"LushOS is a project to make the Windows 95/NT interface look more luscious with new cursors, icons, backgrounds and maybe a better launching facility. This project is currently in a state of development but we are making available what we have so far..."
(I am aware that the first piece of freeware sounds like something that came standard on the MacOs since version 7.0, an eon ago, and the second sounds like a knock-off of "Aaron" back in the Copland development days at Apple. But let's face it, most of the Windows interface is a copy of the MacOS, so what's new?)
The point here is, if you are looking for spiffy little utilities to make your Windows computing experience more fun, for free, Freehound is the place to be.
