The 50+ Seniors Adult Education Discussion Group focuses on issues in adult education in the Vancouver Island area, but if you happen to live in Tacoma they won't turn you away.
The group encourages those with experience in the area of adult education to post their advice and information. Here's how they put it:
"The profession of Adult Education has been around for centuries...even going back to the ancient Greeks. However, the term Adult Educator is fairly recent. For example, back in the 1960's, when I first started out,in Canada at least, the professional classification of Adult Educator was not common. In fact, I do not recall it being used at all."
Now, it is one of the fastest growing professions in the 'helper' field. Adult education is the focus of some of the mostinnovative and expanding college and university programs. Companies are embracing adult educators in ever-expanding numbers."
What about you. Are you in Adult Education, and if you are, what kind of work do you do? Are you with a company, an academic institution, a volunteer agency, or in private practice?"
I invite you to tell us about yourself, your job, your aspirations, your visions, your expectations of the future of adult education."
And, if you have positions in your organization that might be of interest to other adult educators, I ask that you consider giving some information on how to obtain more information about the position, and ideally, a contact person and a telephone number, e-mail address, or postal address."
