Edupage
Since originally listing with TechMailings, the EDUPAGE newsletter has joined with another organization, Cause, and re-dubbed themselves the EDUCAUSE newsletter. I mention this so you don't get confused, as I almost did, when you visit their Web site in order to join the mailing list.

The focus of the newsletter appears to me much the same, except I suspect that they will be taking a more activist stance now. This is a newsletter for all those of you interested in the intersection of higher education and Internet technology.

Here's what they have to say about their new structure and mission:

"Recognizing a remarkable convergence of mission and goals, the members of CAUSE and Educom voted to create a new consolidated association to galvanize thought and action at the intersection of higher education and information technology. The new association, EDUCAUSE, was incorporated effective July 1, 1998, with offices in Washington, D.C. and Boulder, Colorado.

"EDUCAUSE will focus on the management and use of computational, network, and information resources in support of higher education's missions of scholarship, instruction, service, and administration.

"The new association will build on the legacies of Educom and CAUSE. Through a variety of policy initiatives and demonstration projects, EDUCAUSE will conceive and organize the necessary technical and policy infrastructure to support higher education's continued renewal. Through existing and new programs and services, EDUCAUSE will work to ensure that its members possess the vision, capabilities, relationships, and tools to assume leadership roles in support of their institutions' dreams and aspirations...."

This organization is very focused, and not for the dabbler. Among the educational partnerships they have formed you'll find organizations like:

  • AACC (American Association of Community Colleges)
  • NACUBO (National Association of College and University Business Officers)
  • NERCOMP (New England Regional Computing Program)
  • NWACC/CNI (NorthWest Academic Computing Consortium)
  • The Coalition for Networked Information
  • SAC (Seminars on Academic Computing)

If this type of advocacy and strategic planning are part of what you are interested in, this newsletter is highly recommended.
