BELZ WEB TIPS is put together by a guy named Jay Belz as an adjunct to the Belz Family Web page on Tripod, and as part of what he calls "Belz Enterprizes"[sic]. This latter includes Web development and consulting, Belz Mortgage Reduction, and Belz Shopping Network. But the free e-mail newsletter is described as " tips and hints about surfing the web and/or creating a web site of your own."
The home page for this newsletter is chock full of all sorts of things besides the link to subscribe to Belz Web Tips. In fact, like many Web sites hosted at Tripod, this one is kind of a catch-all. There are links to each member of the Belz family's personal pages, information about ICQ, there are Eric Clapton and Meg Ryan fan pages, there's a "Web Development Center," there's "Cool Links" and "Suggested Readings." There's everything here except the kitchen sink. And there's a place to subscribe to the newsletter.
I figured my best bet would be to click on the Web Development Center to get an idea of what sort of tips and hints Jay Belz had to offer. Here's the intro at the WDC:
"In the long time I have spent developing this site I have learned alot. One thing that I would like to pass on to anyone who may pass this way is that the internet is a cooperative effort for everyone. My site is possible only because of the inspiration of a true 'Webmaster' named Robbyn and a stranger who I met at the restaurant I work at who led me to the world of HTML. In that same spirit of cooperation I would like to pass on to you, any and all resources that I can that may be of assistance in developing your own little web site. As well I would appreciate any suggestions from you or maybe suggestions for other resources that you dont see here. At any rate have fun and please look me up and drop me a line on either my e-mail, ICQ, or leave me a note in my guestbook....Thanks!"
There were interesting links to resources here, from Website Garage to Earthweb tutorials to Web Monkey.
So, though I tend to have a bias against the catch-all approach of the main Web site, I was engaged here. This is a modest regular guy having fun on the Web and wanting to pass along some of what he has learned to other newbies. There's nothing wrong with that.
If you are a jaded and experienced 'Nethead, this is not going be a site you'll visit more than once, if at all. But if you're new to the Internet and the Web, enjoy ICQ chats and want to learn more at your own pace from a nice person, Belz Web Tips could work for you.
