RIVEN LYST is the collective title for a group of four Discussion Lists focused on the vagaries and intrigues of the games "Myst" and "Riven: The Sequel to Myst." For those of you who don't know, Myst was one of the most successful and widely emulated role-playing games (RPG) of the last decade. The attraction of the game was not only its cutting edge use of graphics, soundtrack and puzzles, but the fact that it was not also a fight, cut, shoot or kill game. When it was released in Cyan and distributed by Broderbund Software in 1994 it excited the gaming world and set a new standard for interactive play. Riven, as the name implies, its sequel came out in 1997 to immediate rave reviews.

Riven Lyst is for all of those thousands of fans interested in learning more about the Myst/Riven universe, new fans wanting pointers on playing the increasingly complex gaming scenarios, discussion of the five novels which have been produced about the game's universe and its evolution, discussions on the language D'ni featured in the game, and all events and developments of the game's future.

That's why what started out in 1997 as one list quickly multiplied into *four* lists with voluminous threads covering everything imaginable about the two games.

I'm going to assume that your eyes haven't glazed over by now and that you are familiar with Myst, if not its celebrated sequel. Here's a snippet from the Riven Lyst FAQ:

" Q: 'I'm stuck on a puzzle in the game. Can you tell me how to get past...'

"A: There are several walkthroughs on the internet now which give varying degrees of hints to flat-out spoilers. You can find links to several of these hint and walkthrough pages at the Myst and Riven Links / Bookstore page. One of the best online which we might suggest is The Riven Hint Guide.

"Q: 'What are the names of the Myst/Riven related novels which have been released? Where can I buy them?'

"A: In addition to completing all the work on the game Riven, the Millers have published three novels about the history of the worlds of Myst and Riven. The titles of these three books are 'Myst: The Book of Ti'ana', 'Myst: The Book of Atrus', and 'Myst: The Book of D'ni'. They are published by Hyperion, and are available in any good bookstore, but you are unlikely to find a better price than you will at the Myst and Riven Bookstore..."

If you aren't afraid to go back and reload your old Myst CD-ROM again, or if you have been itching to attempt being seduced by Riven, this is the place to go. Check it out.
