CA WEB DESIGNS is not a newsletter about Web designs from California. The "CA" in this instance stands for Canada. The Web site attached to this newsletter is Kerkness.com, a site produced by Winnipeg native Ryan Kerk Mayberry. (We have to take it he likes his middle name.) As it turns out, the Web site is all about Ryan Kerk Mayberry and his design accomplishments. I couldn't find a place to subscribe to the newsletter there, only a way to make comments to His Kerkness. That aside, it was an interesting place to visit.
I got the impression at the Web site that the point of the newsletter is to engage Mayberry in discussion about Web design and potentially become one of his clients. You might want to. He knows Macromedia Flash quite well, and his design has a certain innovative quirkiness.
Considering that he listed here in the TechMailings database, it might have been helpful if an archive for the newsletter was provided, or we were given some sense of what the newsletter is all about. Oh well.
The primary reason for this review is that I do think Mayberry has design talent. It would be worth our while to visit his Web site, which is where you're directed in his database listing here, just to experience it. The navigational interface is incredibly clean and relatively easy to understand. The use of Flash 4 is also interesting and elegant compared to some designs I've seen.
And if Web design and development is your bag, you would probably want to engage Mayberry in discussion. While you're at it, let him know that he needs to do a better job of explaining and promoting the newsletter on his site. Thanks.
