There are still a few days before d-day--you know, the rollover. The big double aught. And while many of the thousands of Y2K pundits that existed earlier in the year have bitten the dust, Sanger's Review is still cranking out a decent compilation of Y2K headlines every business day. A subscription to this mailing list will keep you in the know about the latest--if you're interested.
This Y2K list is one of the few that boasts a respectable level of journalistic standards. Sanger's links to the headlines and provides interesting summaries, plus intelligent editorial. There are usually 8-12 summaries each day.
You won't find summaries of vapid press releases here, nor will you see material leaning either to the alarmist point of view or the camp which says there is no reason to worry about the bug. Here is the criteria they say an article must live up to in order to be summarized in the review:
- significant, reasonably credible reports of industry or government progress; e.g., major surveys and interviews with organization heads
- major announcements by key public figures, Y2K experts, industry groups, and governmental agencies
- important legislation and international action
- particularly telling incidents of Y2K repair or disrepair
- the introduction of truly important Y2K-fighting tools and strategies employed by industry and government
- new developments in public reaction (ranging from preparation to panic) to the problem
- commentary that the author of this site finds particularly worthwhile
Like I said, there are still a few days left to get caught up on the topic. Who knows? You might need to know. Only time will tell.
