A lot of what's going on in the Linux community smacks of a 'holier-than-thou' attitude--in other words, if you ain't usin' open source, you ain't nothin' and you ain't nevah gonna be nothin. Doesn't that irritate you? If it does, you'll be refreshed by the non-judgmental atmosphere of the Babygeeks mailing list.
It's chatty and conversational, this discussion list that was created by a tech support guy with a loving heart. There are all levels of expertise here, from the clueless on up - yet no one is flamed or treated with derision. Hmm... maybe they're on to something.
Here's a recent post, just to give you an idea:
"Anyone playing with anything fun, lately? I'm on the search for an old beater computer, like a 486 or P100 for general fooling around, and an old UNIX box to play around with. Plus I am trying to get familiar with Windows Media shit for work, and ye gods is it boring stuff. I'm also trying to teach myself Java to get ahead for class next semester, and that's pretty damn boring, too. Urk."
At other places, she'd be flamed to a crisp for even mentioning Windows or admitting she doesn't know Java yet. Just goes to show you, there are still a few evolved humanoids in the world of tech.
