ADVANCED HTML is not for beginning Webmasters. The list's FAQs politely advise people with basic HTML questions to read books or turn to any of the many fine HTML tutorials available online. This is a heavily-moderated forum where skilled Webmasters ask each other technical questions to which they have not been able to find answers elsewhere.
If -- and only if -- you are an experienced builder of Websites who runs into a problem now and then, as do we all, ADV-L is a perfect mailing list. Most questions are answered by direct e-mail to the person who posted the original query, which keeps volume down. Many questioners, however, abstract the (often many) answers they receive and send them to the list in that form, where they are posted as part of the daily ADV-HTML digest where all can see them.
ADV-HTML claims more than 3,000 subscribers in over 50 countries. During our 30-day test subscription we received an average of 22 messages per day. Every post was on-topic, and according to the digest, each one was answered rapidly and cogently.
The ADV-HTML format is one of the best we've seen, anywhere, in any professional "help" e-mail group.
Previous daily digests are supposedly archived at http://risc.ua.edu/adv-html, but five tries on different days gave us nothing but "Server not responding" messages. Perhaps you'll have better luck than we did; these are valuable archives, and we wish all newly-forged Webmanglers would read them -- and take notes!
