THE VIRTUAL BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE is a monthly e-mail publication, available either in HTML or plain ASCII text. It is of, by, for, and about the Internet -- and computers in general. Each issue contains three to four useful articles.
Some recent articles:
•Review of The Bat!, an e-mail client from Australia.
•A pointer to the International Lyrics Server Website, which catalogs song lyrics from all over. (Nice site, BTW.)
•How to Catch a Spammer
•...and a whole bunch of handy Windows tips 'n tricks, usually two or three in every issue.
This whole thing sprang forth from the fertile mind of Lief Gregory, who runs it as a spare-time hobby. About 700 subscribers (as of Dec. 1, 1988) enjoy Gregory's monthly musings enough to tune in. Some also contribute articles. Gregory apparently tries hard to stay in touch and in tune with his readers; a few months ago he did a reader satisfaction survey -- and got over 400 responses!
This is an unheard-of level of solicited reader feedback. Obviously, Gregory is doing something right, and we hope his little monthly newsletter's number of subscribers grows into the high thousands before long.
(Gregory's tone is middlin' technical; not heavy-duty enough to satisfy true geeks, but sometimes just a little over the heads of people who ran down to Wal-Mart last Thursday and plugged in to AOL yesterday. If you're anywhere between these two extremes, you'll find VBOL just right.)
