FREEWAREWEB ONLINE! Oh, how we all love the word "free." And when you attach that word to "software" to make "freeware," our ears perk up as if we were Schnauzers on the trail of a hot scent. What could be better than finding pointers to three or four nifty pieces of freeware ever week in your e-mail inbox? We can only think of a couple of things -- and none of them are available via e-mail.
We've all seen ads that asked the silly, unanswerable question, "Why pay more?" When it comes to software, if you can get something that does what you need for free, the question could be, "Why pay anything at all?"
We're constantly amazed at the amount -- and quality -- of free software floating around on the Internet. The problem is finding it all, and that's where FREEWAREWEB comes in. To begin with, they have a nice Web site full of freeware, more than a few pieces of which we have downloaded for our own use. The archive is well-organized, and most of the links are up-to-date. Program descriptions are accurate and to-the-point. Indeed, this site is almost as nice as Andover's own Dave Central!
But the newsletter is the key thing here. Every week you'll get news of a couple of neat pieces of freeware. They can be anything from Telnet utilities to screensavers. You'll also get a few little news items the FREEWAREWEB editors feel are important, along with a couple of pieces of fan mail from grateful readers.
One note: this is Windows software only. Sorry, no Linux here. (Sigh)
