The MEDUSANET NEWSLETTER is a great resource for medical education information. If you are a pre-med or medical student, this is a must-use newsletter. Don't be put off by their Web site. (For reasons TechMailings fails to comprehend, the Web site's main information page has not been updated since August, 1997.) Luckily, the archive of the newsletters is up-to-date, though.
As an aside, I just have to say that the neglect shown this newsletter's main information page is just plain disappointing. If this newsletter means to be more than parochial enterprize, the "this page is under construction" excuse that they have been using for the last two years is unacceptable. I almost forewent doing a review of this newsletter because of it.
The good news is that the newsletter itself is a great place for medical students and interns to kibbitz.
Here's an entry to the newsletter:
"Hello,
"I'm a second-year med-student, wondering what internal medicine textbook I should buy. I got an ad in the mail to get the CD-ROM version of Kelly's for only $29.95 when you purchase the new edition of their book. That sounds like a good deal -- if the Kelley's book will serve me well during third year.
"Kelley's apparently came out with a new edition just this year, and it's supposed to be much improved.
"I was just wondering generally, what internal medicine textbook do you recommend for third year? Anybody who has anything, positive or negative, to say about the following books, please post: Harrison's, Cecil's, Kelley's, Stein. Does it make a difference which book I use?
"Thanks for any tips!"
So I wouldn't say write this newsletter off just yet. But they should be aware that neglecting to update the Web site is a serious error. Even though they are dealing with a very specialized niche, future doctors are as demanding as the rest of us when it comes to customer service... Maybe even more so.
