BestEzines
You would think from the name, BESTEZINES that this would be a newsletter with an accompanying Web site similar to David Labowitz's Ezine Digest, or Factsheet Five. Those two newsletters cover the broad spectrum of electronic publishing. BestEzines does not. Its primary focus is on newsletters and Web sites which cater to business people. In fact, the publisher added a "BestEzines Non-marketing" category as an after-thought.

Somehow this individual was unclear on the concept, it seems to me. You get the distinct impression from the opening commentary on his splashpage, in fact, that he has failed to differentiate between e-zine and newsletter. Listen:

"If you are like me, your e-mailbox is overflowing with ezines. Admittedly, I am an e-zine junkie! I can't resist a FREE subscription. Unfortunately, there are very few quality e-zines that I enjoy reading. This site was designed to help you, the subscriber, identify which e-zines are worth subscribing to. I have read hundreds of e-zines and I rate them based on original content, advertising methods, prompt delivery and Web site quality. Enjoy!"

Okay, says I, I'll take you at your word. I clicked on the "BestEzines Non-marketing" link and found .... All of 13 listings! Among these were places like "Bloomin' Garden Magic," "Covert Shoppers Anonymous," and "Rate My Site." Not that there is anything wrong with any of these sites, though their focus (again) is really on being NEWSLETTERS.

Secondly, is it just me, or doesn't a site like "Rate My Site" have a slight MARKETING tinge?

This is what I mean about BestEzine's being unclear on the concept of what most people would consider an e-zine. I know scores of zine publishers who would line up to give this guy a piece of their minds.

That said, from the sampling I took, this guy writes well enough, and has some interesting sites/newsletters to recommend. The pickings are slim, considering the literal hundreds of thousands of newsletters and e-zines out there, but I'm sure he'll eventually get that clue.

Take a look and draw your own conclusion as to whether this is a good resource for you.
