EZN EXPRESS is the newsletter of the Enuff Z’Nuff fan Web site. A lot of people forget these days, when boundaries are merging so quickly, that the original concept of the Zine was a self-published newsletter and that most of the original Zines being published back in the bad old dead-tree days were fan Zines. Well EZN express has that original "purity" --- it is a fan-zine for a band.
This particular fan zine has been publishing since 1996 and you can find and download all the back issues on their Web site. The site is located on the Tripod.com, but don't let that put you off. This is not your typical Tripod site. It is extremely well done and has tons of features to offer, including music samples from the Enuff Z'Nuff's latest releases.
If you are so inclined, you could spend a good deal of time at this Web site. I just poked around a little to produce this review and kept wishing I had more time to see more of what these folks have to offer. I'm certainly going to pay a return visit --- and I have never heard *any* of this band's music. Before the day I went to review the newsletter I didn't know Enuff Z'Nuff existed!
But if you can judge a band by the passion of its fans, then this is one great and unrecognized treasure of a band. I don't know. What I do know is that these people love them.
Here's a snippet from one of the recent editions of EZN Express:
"From a Fan's Perspective...
"A review of the VH-1 'Where Are They Now' by Margie Merchant
"Tuesday, July 13, 1999-- It was the date that I, as well as hundreds of devoted fans, had waited for patiently for what seemed like an eternity. Ever since various mailing lists devoted to the band of the century had let the proverbial cat out of the bag, an insatiable desire in the hearts of the fans began to demand satisfaction :WE WANT OUR ENUFF Z'NUFF AND WE WANT EM NOW!!!!!
"The countdown had begun. Months receded into weeks, weeks dwindled into days, days disappeared until we were mere hours away. Every tick of the clock inched us closer and closer to the long awaited climax. Finally, the time was upon us...10PM EST, everything else fell off the face of the planet. It was time...time Enuff Z'nuff reclaimed their rightful places back on the airwaves and the vehicle for this momentous occasion was VH1's Where are they now: Hair Bands. Approximately half an hour after the show had begun and after such bands as Great White, L.A. Guns, and Slaughter had their moments in the sun, EZN took the stage...and ran away with the show. Many consider their segment to have been the best of the show. Everyone else paled in comparison. Interspersed with day glow trippy images from days past and bits of home videos, we learn how the band has matured yet managed to stay the same...."
Breathless? No doubt about it, but these are True Believers here. Check it out.
