GAMING INTELLIGENCE is another newsletter for gamers interested in getting deep background on board games, card games, game-related fiction, and the best of what is in the gaming magazines. Unlike the newsletter we reviewed yesterday, it focuses on non-computer/non-video as much as computer/video games.
Here's a snip from their intro:
"Gaming Intelligence is a free weekly newsletter sent out by email and mirrored on our Web site. It focuses on the gaming industry, specifically board games, card games (collectible or not), game-related fiction, gaming magazines, live-action roleplaying, miniatures and wargaming, play-by-mail games, and roleplaying games. We also focus on computer and videogames that fit in these categories.
"Every week, GI will arrive in your mailbox, bringing you the latest gaming news, product releases, feature articles, columns, and reviews.
"Our news is gathered from industry press releases, items on the Net, as well as word-of-mouth from our industry friends. Each week we bring you feature articles focusing on everything from current issues in the industry, genre and rules discussions, and occasional rants from our writers. We throw in a list of product releases for the week, and reviews of recently released products..."
I'm aware that there is a whole class of gamers whose only interest is computer or video games. But gaming includes a much bigger universe than that, as our Nomic review should have evidenced. Among the games which first hooked Tech Mailings Guy were board games like, yeah, Monopoly and Risk, but also Battle of the Bulge and Diplomacy. Diplomacy was a favorite game in the Kennedy White House and Henry Kissinger used to swear by it. No dice, no chance, all strategy and negotiation.
I've also wiled away many an hour at some boring job playing Solitaire. So if the general strategies and vagaries of games are for you, you will find Gaming Intelligence a real treasure for your subscriptions list.
Here's a sample from the newsletter archives:

"LASALION GAMES is in need of artists for both their game DEMON'S LAIR and their soon to be released game THE NOMADS. They would like black & white works, done in pencil or pen and ink. Pricing is as follows: full page= $40.00, 1/2 page= $20.00, 1/4 page= $15.00, smaller pencil sketches= $10.00. The Demon's Lair illustrations should have a basic medieval fantasy setting to them. For the Nomad's game, you'll need to contact them directly for what they need. If interested, either send email to or ..."
