Y2K LIVING JOURNAL is exactly the type of newsletter you would expect from its name. Since originally listing with TechMailings's database back in 1998, this e-zine has changed its name to "Y2K/Preparedness Living Journal." Honestly, Tech Mailing's Guy (TMG) is not sure where I stand on this whole issue. Some days I wake up and count the amount of cash and canned food I have on hand and scan Gary North's items over at IT Manager's Journal. Other days I just kick back like the grasshopper in the fable of The Grasshopper and The Ant. How about you?
Unlike the more serious and "professional" Y2K newsletters I have reviewed for you, this one is more of a discussion list of the average people. Most of the folks who subscribe and contribute to this newsletter are actively looking for answers on the Web, in their local communities, and by contacting the officials they expect to be prepared in their cities. They are focused on being ready for the worst. At their Web site you'll find banner ads with the alarmist warning, "Martial Law: Are you ready?" that link to Gary North's articles on the Web.
So if you're looking for a place where average folks gather, this newsletter will stand you in good stead. As we've only got about a month left on this thing, I thought TMG better give you the skinny on it right now. You can still stock up and prepare if you are so inclined.
Here's a snippet from their archives:
"Y2K Library - a Must See free site.
"Basically Steve at y2klibrary.com created this site to help out people trying to prepare for Y2K.
"I believe that all info that could save lives should be easily available, I also believe that credit should be given where credit is due. That is what I have done. It is nearly impossible to search the net and find useful information, so I created a one stop resource for projects, plans and info that we can all use to help us become self reliant. By going to this site people can spend their time preparing instead of searching. There are many construction projects like Water Distillers, Handpumps, Stoves, Solar Projects and so forth. There is also information on Food Storage, Water Purification, Canning, Dehydrating Food and much more. All the info on this site is free."
The address is: http://www.y2klibrary.com/"
What TMG liked about this newsletter is that it was not "The Sky is Falling!" alarmist preaching. It was practical stuff and tips from real people. It includes announcements for community meetings with local officials --- like the fire chief, the police, and municipal departments --- held at local churches and synagogues around the country. Sometimes, it doesn't hurt to expect the worst and then be disappointed. That seems to be the philosophy here. Highly Recommended.
