BAREBACKHTMLCODERS is one of those lists that didn't leave a lasting impression with me. I'm not sure why. The Web page supporting this list is over on GeoCities, and so is jampacked with ad banners. But the tone is welcoming, other than this. The page is called "Web Design Workshop," which is consistent with the mailing list theme.
I don't think it was me. I think there was something very vanilla about the design exhibited on this page which made me question if this was a place I would go to learn Web design. To move on, I went to take a look at their list archive, which is located on the ONEList server.
Again, I came away with this "I'm still hungry" feeling. Here's the most recent listing I found there:
"Topics in today's digest:
"1. How does one get html into the new upgraded web

"Subject: How does one get html into the new upgraded web
"A friend of mine using a computer revamped my webpage, and then printed out the 4 1/2 pages of code, for me to apply the changes.
"How does one go about doing this. I just tried to enter the code into my text section. with no resuls.
"I have been told that it is possible to enter html into the page but I have been unsuccessful at it.
"I warned you I was a novice I appreciate any input. If it helps any we have the Echostar system, model 7100.
"Thanks."
I'll spare you the second message, as it's "raven" complaining about not getting an response to the above query.
The last I knew, the purpose of creating a digest for a newsletter was to cull the important and informative posts and avoid dross and replication. Maybe the definition of "digest" has changed recently and nobody told me.
My point? If this is the best post of the period in question, what were the totally inane ones like? I don't think I want to know.
It was Gertrude Stein whose critique of the city of Oakland, Calif., was that "There's no 'there' there." That is how barebackhtmlcoders made me feel.
Not Recommended.
