FREE-ED is a the newsletter of the Free Education on the Internet Web site. This site is produced by a group of people in Columbus, Ohio, USA, who believe that the Internet should be fully used as the valuable learning resource it was originally envisioned to be and that all of us should have free access to its wealth of educational opportunities. How can you not respond favorably to a laudable goal like that one?
The Free Education on the Internet "About" page features their mission statement, part of which I'll share with you here:
"Free-Ed is committed to providing an online, virtual university where users from around the world can study, take courses, and participate in community activities at no cost. This enterprise requires us to build a new kind of learning model that takes into account the technological strengths of the Internet and the needs of our users.
"Free-Ed separates itself from other educational sites on the Internet by offering only the highest quality content that is available and by offering all content free of charge..."
But that's not all. If while culling the Web's resources they don't find course materials which they consider of adequate value, as they say "...when we can't find enough material that meets our exclusive standards, we will create it for you from scratch!"
You and I have David and Paul Heiserman to thank for this wonderful free Web resource. They have course listings for just about any topic you'd like to explore from languages to Genetics and Cell Biology.
A good touch is the Discussion Group where you can interact with other users of the Free-Ed resources and seek assistance or new publications. All-in-all, this is a well designed, well conceived enterprise.
I encourage you to give this newsletter and Web site your serious consideration if you desire to continue your education, are the parent of home-schooled students, or a teacher or academician looking for a quality system of organizing the vast amount of information available on the Internet for free. Recommended.
